Google Chrome - What is Google Chrome and a Piece of Its History

𝗥𝘂𝗺𝗮𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗰.𝗰𝗼𝗺 ➣ Chrome's popularity was achieved in a relatively short time, it is interesting to review the ins and outs

What is Google Chrome?

Google Chrome is a browser application that is used to explore cyberspace just like Firefox, Opera or Microsoft Edge. If Firefox was developed by Mozilla, Google Chrome was created and designed by Google, the world's largest internet company which also owns Android.

The open source project used by Google is called Chromium, it uses the Webkit rendering engine up to version 27 and is designed to run at above average speeds while remaining lightweight on desktop and mobile devices.

The first beta version of Google Chrome was born on September 2, 2008, four after the first news about Google's development of a browser application broke. In this initial version, Google still uses the Webkit rendering engine and is only available for Windows XP devices. A few months wandering in the beta phase, on December 11, 2008 Google officially released Chrome to the public.

It didn't take long for Chrome to attract public attention, and in the early days of its release, it claimed a 1% share of global browser users, but fell to 0.69% in October 2008. But after the stable version was released to the public, right in In December 2008 the percentage of Chrome users again exceeded 1%.

Success on Windows, Google immediately developed the OSX version starting in early 2009 and the developer preview version was released on June 4 of the same year. It wasn't until late 2009 that Google brought the OS X version of Chrome out of the preview phase to beta, including the Linux version. A year later, on May 25, 2010 Google finally released a stable version that supports all desktop platforms.

The debut and perfect performance made Chrome so popular, even in December 2015 StatCounter estimated that the browser application had been adopted by 58% of desktop users. Not only on the desktop platform, in the mobile realm, Chrome also has many fans. When combined between all supported platforms, Chrome pocketed 45% global market share. Because of its popularity, Google has even managed to expand Chrome's reach to other domains in the form of Chromecast and Chrome OS.

Chrome arrived on the Android mobile platform on February 7, 2012, followed by iOS on June 26 of the same year. In June, Google also brought Chrome to Windows 8.

Google Chrome brings a number of excellent features, apart from the standard features found in most well-known browser applications. Chrome supports, among others, Javascript, HTML 5, CSS 2.1, and a number of features including private mode, multiple tabs, various theme options and extensions and additional third-party plugins, language choices, and several other excellent features, which will be discussed next.

Security

In order to maintain the security of its users, Chrome regularly downloads the latest files that contain phishing and malware lists. With this feature, Chrome will give a warning when the user accesses one of them or a site that has potentially dangerous content.

Still for security, Chrome is also armed with a master password feature that is enabled to protect passwords stored in the application. For example internet banking passwords, social networking accounts, e-mail and other online-based services.

Speed

Speed is the most important capital for Chrome, this is also the factor that made it managed to push into the most popular browser beating Firefox and Internet Explorer which in fact took part first. Chrome uses a virtual machine called V8 JavaScript, which consists of dynamic code generation and two other key features that result in above-average performance.

Testing was then carried out by SunSpider JavaScript Benchmark in 2008 which found that Google Chrome worked much faster than all of its closest competitors. But in 2010 another independent test showed Chrome to be one notch below Opera's Presto engine.

Bookmarks

Like Firefox, Safari and Microsoft Edge, Chrome is also enriched with a bookmark feature that makes it easier for users to bookmark a page and then save it so that it can be easily found again in the future.

Synchronization

By registering an account on Chrome, users can access bookmarks, browsing history, passwords and settings from any device anywhere.

Chrome Web Store

The Chrome Web Store acts like the Play Store or the App Store on iOS. This is where Chrome browser users can find various third-party applications and also themes to install on their applications. Or for developers, they can offer Chrome users their own plugins and extensions.

Automatic Translation

Integration is one of Google's advantages, where almost all of its online services are connected in one window. To add this translation capability, Google buried the ability of Google Translate to Chrome which was activated by default or turned off if it was deemed unnecessary.
